How Do I Connect Eero with D-Link Router?
An Eero mesh WiFi network with a D-Link router will be a great combo. But, considering that, both are routers, there will be a double NAT situation. In simple words, both routers will create networks and it will be quite problematic.
To fix this, it will be better that you turn off the WiFi function of D-Link router and perform Eero WiFi extender setup for the mesh system. However, the option of double NATing is still there which in turn will disable some functions of the mesh system because the D-Link router will be the caretaker of the entire network in that case.
How to Connect Eero with D-Link Router: Steps
1. Enable Bridge Mode on Your D-Link Router
The very first step is to disable the WiFi functionality of the D-Link router. You can do that by enabling the Bridge mode. For this, consider connecting your PC to your D-Link router using a LAN cable and follow these instructions:
- Go to dlinkrouter.local and login using the default password.
- FYI, D-Link routers do not have passwords by default.
- Go to Settings now and locate the Device Mode option.
- From the drop-down menu, select the Bridge Mode option.
- In some models, you will have to check the option labeled Enabled Bridge Mode.
- Save the changes.
The WiFi function of your D-Link router is disabled now and you can connect your Eero router using an Ethernet cable easily. This is to inform you that the Eero unit that will be cabled to the D-Link router will automatically turn into a router. Users also call it the Eero gateway. The next section will reveal how to set up Eero with D-Link router if you have not set it up yet.
2. Connect Eero to D-Link Router
First of all, download the Eero app on your mobile phone and log in using the Amazon account details. You can also go ahead using the Eero account details if you have one. After that, follow these prompts:
- Restart your D-Link router.
- Using a LAN cable, connect your Eero router and the D-Link router.
- Power up the Eero gateway now.
- Connect the mobile phone to the WiFi network of Eero using the WiFi password provided on the label.
- Come back to the Eero app.
- The app will now ask you whether all the connections are done or not.
- Confirm the same and proceed.
- Go through the prompts appearing on the app and create the Eero network.
- The Eero is now successfully connected to your D-Link router.
In this manner, you can use D-Link router and the Eero mesh network together. The instructions are equally applicable Eero 6 extender setup and other Eero models.
The Concluding Words
Connecting two WiFi routers is generally not recommended. However, if you still want to connect Eero with D-Link router, it is recommended that you turn off WiFi on one of the router. This way double NAT situation can be avoided. Also, you will be able to make the most of your Eero network without compromising with the advanced networking features.
